Some things I have recently discovered…

I don’t normally write posts, I usually use photographs for my tumblr pages but I think this issue calls for some words.

So, today Nicky Morgan was declared Education Secretary, replacing the widely hated Michael Gove. But before she has even spoken out about this announcement herself, she is receiving a ton of abusive messages in relation to her vote against same-sex marriage. If she was homophobic, I would understand more. But Morgan is quoted of clarifying, “I’m absolutely pro same-sex relationships” and that the reason she voted against the marriage law was due to her religious beliefs of which she was torn over. Yes, she considered voting in spite of her traditional upbringing, which takes guts. No, she didn’t vote in favour of same-sex marriage but she does state that she supports this law now and respects it, she is clearly not a homophobic person. Personally, I feel that belittling someone based in their religion is a problem, just as much as homophobia is. So the people sending her hate messages are no better than the homophobic person they are vilifying Nicky Morgan to be.

Instead, the population need to welcome Nicky Morgan and allow her to make some changes to our damaged education system. Our opinions can be formed on the choices she makes, but until then we have to give her a chance. To me, it feels as though everybody wants to hate the education minister, no matter who they are.

Every true love and friendship is a story of unexpected transformation. If we are the same person before and after we loved, that means we haven’t loved enough.
